Tiger claw jewelry became popular during the British colonization of India during the Victorian period. This period was known as the British Raj (Hindi for 'rule'). The pieces were produced to appeal to the British travelers as souvenirs with an Indian flare. This craft is now banned which makes the older pieces very collectible.
This particular tiger claw bracelet from the Victorian Raj (ca1880) era is simply marvelous! The bracelet is comprised of a single authentic tiger claw, which exhibits some natural dark lines that create a marbled look. The claw is held within a sterling silver encasement, which is decorated with etched dragon and scrolling motifs. The top of the sterling silver setting features a complementary bail, which allows the piece to hang on the attached chain bracelet. The bracelet is comprised of ellipse shaped links, and secures with a hidden push clasp and an additional figure eight safety. This extraordinary piece is incredibly detailed and would make a magnificent addition to any collection!
Measurements: The tiger claw is 1" tall and 3/4" wide. The chain bracelet is 7 1/2".
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the tiger claw or sterling silver setting. The push clasp and figure eight safety are both secure and in working order.
