fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself, making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. The opposite of a cameo, an intaglio is created by carving into the surface of a stone to produce an image in relief, with the purpose of pressing into sealing wax, often used in signet rings and fobs.

A wonderful English amethyst fob from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! This beautiful piece is crafted in 9k yellow gold and relatively petite in size. At the base of the fob is a faceted amethyst stone, which exhibits a rich purple hue. The stone is held within a smooth and simple bezel setting. The body of the piece feature four "arms" which are represented by twisted wires. At the top of the fob's handle is a complementary bail, perfect for hanging the piece from a chain or charm bracelet. The rim of the fob is marked with a "9CT" purity mark. Antique fobs are particularly popular among collectors and this one would make a perfect addition to any collection!

  • Measurements: The fob stands slightly less than 1" tall, including the bail. The base of the fob measures 3/4" long and 1/2" wide.

Condition: The overall condition of the fob is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The amethyst stone and complementary bail are both secure and intact.
