Tiger claw jewelry became popular during the British colonization of India during the Victorian period. This period was known as the British Raj (Hindi for 'rule'). The pieces were produced to appeal to the British travelers as souvenirs with an Indian flare. This craft is now banned which makes the older pieces very collectible.

This particular tiger claw pendant from the Victorian Raj (ca1880s) era is simply marvelous! The pendant is comprised of a single authentic tiger claw, which is very exhibits some natural dark lines that create a marbled look. The claw is set in a 20k yellow gold encasement, which is decorated with three-dimensional four-petaled flowers. The tip of the claw is capped in gold, and features a pointed end. The claw is also decorated with a simple gold braided motif, which carries from the base of the claw to the top of the piece. At the top of the claw is a simple gold ring, making the pendant easy to hang and wear from a chain. The back of the pendant features an illegible maker's mark. This extraordinary piece is incredibly detailed and would make a magnificent addition to any collection!

Measurements: The pendant hangs 1" long, is just under 1/4" thick and measures 1 3/8" at its widest point.

Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the tiger claw.
