Pietra Dura is an art-historical term for the technique of using small, exquisitely cut and fitted, highly-polished colored stones to create what amounts to a painting in stone. The stonework is assembled together so precisely that the contact between each section is practically invisible.
A fantastic pair of Pietra Dura fly cufflinks from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in 18k vibrant yellow gold, each cufflink face features an oval-shaped Pietra Dura portrait. The Pietra Dura depicts a small fly, which has yellowish-green wings and a brown head and legs. The flies are encased within a smooth and simple gold frame. The cufflinks are connected to one another by simple gold spring ring links. A fabulous and unique pair, these cufflinks would make a great addition to any Victorian-era jewelry collection!
Measurements: The cufflink faces have a diameter of 1/2" and a height of 5/8". The connectors measure 3/4" long.
Condition: The overall condition of the cufflinks is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the yellow gold setting. The Pietra Dura faces are secure and intact. The cufflink connectors are intact and in working order.
