The opposite of a cameo, an intaglio is created by carving below the surface to produce an image in relief, with the purpose of pressing into sealing wax.
An incredible bloodstone intaglio ring from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in 18k yellow gold, this fabulous piece adorns an oval-shaped bloodstone that is bezel set at the center. The stone displays a hand-carved motif, which seems to represent the letters "M" and "H" juxtaposed atop one another. The bloodstone is a lovey deep green hue, and features red flecks. The remainder of the band is smooth and simple, and the inside of the shank features a small crown, an "18K" purity mark, and an anchor. A wonderful piece, this intaglio ring would make a stunning everyday piece!
Measurements: The ring has a finger size of 6.5, but could easily be re-sized. The gold band measures 5.5mm wide at the back.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The bloodstone intaglio is secure and intact.
