A Figa is a symbol worn around the world to attract good luck to the person wearing it. It is depicted by a single clenched fist, and is often crafted in metal, wood, stone or ivory. The Figa is traditionally thought to bring good luck only if it is given as a gift.
This coral pendant necklace from the Victorian (ca1880s) era is wonderful example of a traditional Figa motif! This gorgeous piece is hand carved from vibrant natural coral and fitted with 18k gold findings. The clenched fist has wonderful 3-dimensional detail, and holds a trio of carved coral charms that hang from an ellipse-shaped ring. They dangle freely from the base, adding lovely movement when worn. A gold cap represents a sleeve at the wrist, and a complementary bail is attached to the top of the Figa. Two small bezel set seed pearls are also located on the sleeve of the clenched fist, which add a unique flair to the Figa. The charms are attached to a complementary 14k box chain, which secures with a pearl clasp. This fantastic piece is perfect for any coral lover!
Measurements: The figa and attached charms have a length of 3 1/4" (including the complementary bail). The chain is 21" long.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the carved coral charms or gold details. The chain and pearl clasp are both intact and in working order.
