A signet ring can be represented with an intaglio, which is created by carving below the surface of a stone or by a simple smooth seal. Its purpose would have been to seal the wax of a letter or note.
This beautiful intaglio signet ring is simply wonderful! From the Victorian (ca1880s) era, the ring is made of 18k yellow gold and holds an oval shaped carnelian stone with an intaglio carved into the center. The hand carved image seems to depict the letter "M" within a larger "B", with the letters being bordered by a bead-like wreath. The carnelian stone has a rich orange color which compliments the yellow gold setting beautifully. The intaglio rests within an open back setting, and the band of the ring is designed to appear as if the band is composed of three, smaller bands. It's a remarkable ring with wonderful artistry and would make an incredible addition to any collection!
Measurements: The carnelian intaglio and gold bezel setting measures 3/8" tall and 1/4" wide. The ring is a size 11 but could be re-sized.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the carnelian intaglio.
