Victorian 14k Pearl Enameled Double Tiger Claw Pendant Necklace

Tiger claw jewelry became popular during the British colonization of India during the Victorian period. This period was known as the British Raj (Hindi for 'rule'). The pieces were produced to appeal to the British travelers as souvenirs with an Indian flare. This craft is now banned which makes the older pieces very collectible.

This particular tiger claw piece is simply marvelous and extravagant! Crafted in vibrant 14k yellow gold, the necklace features a very large double tiger claw pendant center decorated with pearls along with intricate gold and enamel details hanging on a heavy, hand braided chain. The centerpiece is comprised of 2 large sized tiger claws that connect to each other at the base in a gold encasement, forming crescent-shaped pendant. The face of the pendant features two gold flowers, with pearls set in their blooms, sprouting from the tips of each claw and a line of pearls flanked with blue enamel and etched fleur-de-lis details separating the two claws. Hanging from the pendant is a scrolling etched accent. The intricately braided chain meets the centerpiece at the tip of each claw and is securely held at the back with a spring ring clasp. This striking necklace is an excellent example of Victorian tiger's claw jewelry and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!

Measurements: The length of the chain measures 26". The center tiger claw pendant hangs approximately 2 1/2" long, is 2 5/8" at the widest point and has a depth of 1/2".

Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or chain or to the tiger claws. The clasp is secure and in good working condition.
