Tax excluded. Shipping calculated at checkout
A delightful enameled Art Deco (ca1920s) era wrist watch! This fabulous timepiece is crafted of gold-tone metal and forms the shape of a whimsical butterfly. Striking yet feminine white and black enameling adorns the design as a wheat engraving lines the sides of the butterfly encasement, interrupted only by the fluted crown at the side for winding. The dainty round watch face is marked with blue numbers and vertices that complement the subtly dark blue hour and minute hands. A black ribbon watchband feeds through two loops on the reverse side of the watchcase, which reads "SUNSET WATCH CO. PAT PEND." The inner movement is marked to indicate its manufacture by Austin Watch Co. and additionally reads "17 JEWELS", "SEVENTEEN", "UNADJUSTED", and "XYN". The watch is fitted with a ribbon band that would fit a very small wrist, but it could be easily attached to another band to accommodate varying wrist sizes. This wonderful watch would be a lovely addition to any collection!
Measurement: The butterfly shaped watch case measures approximately 1 3/8" from wingtip to wingtip and is about 3/4" wide. The face measures slightly more than 7/16" in diameter. The band measures an overall 7.5" but will fit a wrist circumference of 5" to 6.5" with its current buckle adjustment holes.
Condition: The overall condition of the watch is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the metal watchcase. There is minimal wear to the enameling commensurate with age, however, due to the design, none of which is noticeable when worn. The band's ribbon strap and its buckle are in good working condition. Watches of this era should be cleaned and oiled periodically as part of proper maintenance, and at current time, the timepiece is keeping good time.
