A fantastic sepia mourning pin from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Set in a sterling silver bezel setting, the pin has the unique image of a palm tree set in grass with a grave beneath the tree. From afar, the picture looks to be painted but if you look closely, you see that almost the entire design is made with hair. The initials and skull have been painted but the remaining image is all sculpted from hair. A delicate etched silver frame surrounds the outside of the piece and the original glass rests on the front. A c-catch clasp is on the back. This stunning and unusual piece is simply marvelous and would make a lovely addition to any collection!
Measurements: The overall size of the pin measures approximately 1 3/8" long, 1 3/4" wide and a little less than 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the brooch is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting or to the glass cover. The hair picture is also in excellent condition. The clasp fits snug and secure and is in good working condition.
