Now a banned material, antique tortoise shell jewelry has become very collectible. A fabulous pair of carved tortoise shell earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Each begins with a 14kt gold earrings wire attaches to a single, tortoise shell bead topper. Dangling below is an elongated tortoise link which is teardrop in shape. The drop link is capped with an finely ornate gold top, complete with fine bead and wirework. The tortoise shell has a rich, deep brown color with light amber and caramel hues that are visible throughout. Despite their substantial size, the earrings are very lightweight and comfortable to wear. They look fantastic when worn and would make a special addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The earrings hang 2 5/8" long, are 3/8" wide and 3/8" thick at their deepest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the carved tortoise shell, and the gold caps and earring wires are intact and in good condition. It appears that one of the gold caps has been reattached at some point (not by us) and there is a minimal amount of brown glue which is visible but hardly noticeable when worn.
