Victorian Long Carved Tortoise Shell Chain Necklace 50"
A fantastic tortoise shell necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Now a banned material, antique tortoise shell jewelry has become very collectible. This particularly long piece features a continuous chain made of hand-carved tortoise shell links. The rounded links are smoothly polished and exhibit wonderful deep brown, dark gold and amber hues that come alive when they catch the light. With no need for a clasp, its generous length allows you to easily slip the necklace overhead and wear it long or double up for a layered look. Despite its substantial appearance, the chain is comfortably lightweight. An unusual and beautifully made piece, it has a bold look and is perfect for any antique jewelry collection!
Measurements: The necklace measures 50" long. Each individual link measures approximately 1" long, 3/4" wide, and is a little less than 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the tortoise shell links, which are securely connected together.
