Retro Sterling & Bright Blue Guilloché Enamel Watch Fob
Guilloché (in English usually "Guilloche") is an engraving technique in in which a very precise, intricate pattern is mechanically etched into an underlying material with very fine detail. Most commonly, the Guilloche surface was then enameled and the repetitive, intricate design would show through the colorful enamel.
A fabulous Guilloché enamel watch fob from the Retro (ca1940) era! This beautiful piece is made of sterling silver and consists of a bell-shaped watch fob that hangs from a decorative silver leaf bail. The watch fob is enameled in a gorgeous bright blue color with delicate gold accents and dots that decorate the surface. Below the enamel is an intricate textured engraving that creates a wavy and eye-catching pattern. Hugging the widest part of the bell shape are two sterling stripes, with a winder sitting in between them on the side (though the watch no longer appears to keep time). The face of the watch is white with gold numbers, and reads "BUCHERER 17 JEWELS" and "SWISS MADE". A wonderful example of fine Guilloché craftsmanship, this wonderful watch fob would look fashionable hung on a long chain and worn everyday!
Measurements: The fob hangs 1 1/8" long (including the bail) and has a 3/4" diameter at the base. The round watch face has a diameter of slightly more than 1/2".
Condition: The overall condition of the watch fob is excellent. Besides minimal normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver setting or Guilloché enamel work. The bail is secure and the winder is intact, though the watch no longer appears to keep time.
