Product Details

A beautiful sterling silver necklace from the Victorian (ca1881) era! This fabulous piece is comprised of an ornate locket that hangs from a long book chain. The chain consists of gorgeous etched links, connected by polished round rings. The etched motif provides wonderful texture to this polished piece! Hanging from the bottom is a large oval shaped locket which displays an intricate 3-dimensional repousse design. Delicate silver bead accents dot the perimeter. At the center are  geometric bars and stripes, and a lovely leaf design decorates the edges. The locket opens to reveal a glass covered space for your favorite photograph or momento along with a fabric insert. It hangs from a fluted bail which connects to the spring ring clasp at the center of the beautiful chain. Several English hallmarks are stamped on sterling setting, including the back of the locket and front of the bail. The marks include Birmingham lion and an anchor, the date letter "g," (representing the year 1881) and the silversmith's hallmark "BL." This incredible necklace is a wonderful example of Victorian artistry and would make a very special addition to any collection!

Measurements: The sterling chain measures approximately " in length. The etched links measure 5/8" long, 3/8" wide, and 1/4" wide. The connector rings measure 5/8" in diameter. The locket hangs approximately 2 3/4" long (including the bail), and measures 2" tall, 1 5/8" wide, and 3/8" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the chain and locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting and the spring ring is secure and in good working condition. The locket opens easily and fastens shut securely.
