Victorian 18kt/Sterling Carved Moonstone Baby Cameo Ring
A beautiful and very unusual moonstone ring from the Victorian (ca1885) era! This alluring piece is crafted in sterling silver and 18kt yellow gold and features a single moonstone cameo in the center. The moonstone is delicately hand-carved to portray a realistic 3-dimensional face of a baby or child who adorns a diamond encrusted bonnet which ties below the chin. The bonnet is made of sterling silver and is lined with eight old Rose Cut diamonds at the top and the tie below the chin is simple yet realistically designed. The moonstone face of the child is incredibly detailed and ornate with a whimsical impish expression, chubby cheeks and several wisps of hair at its forehead, peeking just below the bonnet. The moonstone itself displays a wonderful translucence and a striking blue flash and the stone is set in an open backed setting, allowing the light to pass through. The ring is completed with an 18kt yellow gold band which has two additional Rose Cut diamonds set on either shoulder. The shank has the original hand engraved date which reads "4th June 1885". A true work of art, this incredible Victorian piece has a very special look and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurements: The ring has a finger size 5 but could be resized. The moonstone center measures approximately 5/8" tall and 3/8" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Amazingly, there is no damage to the carved moonstone face, which remains in near perfect condition. Additionally, there is no apparent damage to the sterling and gold setting and all of the diamonds are intact.
