STEPHEN DWECK Vintage Large Sterling Gilt & Turquoise Bead Necklace
This vintage turquoise necklace is a signed piece by designer Steven Dweck! The colorful and stylish piece is comprised of two strands of large beads. A row of graduating sterling beads hangs at the center, draped below the longer strand of turquoise beads. The wonderful duo creates a stylish nested appearance, which drapes prominently at the neckline when worn. Each bead is strung and hand-knotted on pale blue and light grey thread, complimenting the color scheme perfectly. The turquoise beads are polished smooth and have wonderful sea green and robin's egg blue colors. Natural veins of brown and white mineral webbing known as "matrix" give the turquoise a lovely marbled appearance. The sterling beads appear to have been previously gilded, retaining a light gold wash on the surface. The necklace fastens with a folded wirework hook clasp in the back, and is stamped "© STEPHEN DWECK ®" and "STERLING" on the reverse. A very substantial and fashionable piece, it makes a striking statement when worn and is perfect for any turquoise lover!
Measurements: The necklace measures approximately 25" long. The sterling beads that drape at the center hang about 1 1/2" below the turquoise strand. The sterling and turquoise beads range considerably in size, measuring between 3mm at the smallest and 20mm at the largest.
Condition: The necklace remains in very good vintage condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the turquoise and sterling beads or sterling clasp, which fastens securely and is in good working condition. The original stringing remains intact and secure. There is a patina on the surface of the clasp and sterling beads that gives a darkened appearance to the silver, which is normal for vintage jewelry. The slightly golden appearance of the sterling is likely attributed to a previous gilt finish that has partially faded due to age.
