Late Victorian Sterling + Banded Agate Bead Necklace 34.5"

SKU: 41327

A unique bead necklace from the late Victorian (ca1900) era! A pattern of alternating agate and sterling beads are connected with double strands of chain, forming a long, flowing design. The agate stones are smoothly polished and display a wonderful matte finish, showcasing their rich black and brown colors with white banding throughout. Each silver bead covered in applied Etruscan wirework, creating a circular motif that adds a wonderful texture to the necklace. The necklace fastens with a push clasp, which is incorporated into one of the silver beads. Thanks to its generous length, the necklace can be easily slipped on and off overhead, or even doubled when worn for a layered look! A wonderful antique piece, this necklace makes a stylish accessory and would compliment any jewelry collection!

Measurements: The overall length of the necklace is 34.5" long. Each bead measures about 15mm in size. The strands of chain in between each bead measure approximately 1 1/2" in length.

Condition: The necklace is in good antique condition. There is some normal surface wear to the hollow sterling beads, including a few shallow dents and some tiny pinholes. However, the wear is not obvious when the necklace is worn, and does not detract from the beauty of the design. There are no apparent chips or scratches to any of the agate beads, all of which are in excellent condition. The strands of chain and the push clasp are secure. There is a natural patina on the surface of the silver that gives it a darkened look, which is a common characteristic of antique jewelry.
