A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. The base of the fob would often have been used to seal the wax of a letter or note.

A beautiful carved agate fob from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! This gorgeous pendant features an elongated piece of carved agate stone, which has been hand carved into a smoothly polished octagonal shape at the base. The opaque stone displays an incredible combination of swirled colors including rich black, light and dark grays, milky white, and brown. A polished 10kt yellow gold cap adorns the top, which dangles from a simple round bail, perfect for hanging from a favorite chain. A unique Victorian era fob, it would make a lovely addition to any collection!

Measurements: The fob hangs approximately 1 3/8" long (including the bail at the top) and measures about 1/2" wide and 3/8" thick at the base.

Condition: The overall condition of the fob is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there are no apparent damage to the yellow gold setting or any chips or scratches to the surface of the agate. The bail is secure and in good working condition.
