Known for their strong Art Nouveau repousse designs, the Unger Brothers became one of the premier and most well-know American manufacturers of sterling silver jewelry and objects. Born to a family that immigrated from Germany, the Unger Brothers established their business in Newark, NJ and began producing sterling silver jewelry in 1878. They specialized in manufacturing jewelry, glass cutting and silversmithing and in addition to jewelry, produced numerous other items including brushes, hand mirrors, combs, and powder boxes with repoussed silver lids.

This wonderful and unusual sterling set is a beautiful example of the Unger Brothers art form! From the Art Nouveau (ca1900) period, this sterling silver set is comprised of a jigger shot glass and small dish which both carry a golf inspired motif. The image, which is the same on both piece, is that of a young caddy who is in mid-step, walking on a golf course. The repousse image is intricately detailed, depicting a grassy, groomed golf course, tall trees, a long fence and fluffy clouds in the sky. The caddy is reaching into the bag to retrieve a club and dressed in traditional golf attire for the period. The surface of the silver has a wonderful natural patina which adds to the richness and depth to the images. The underside of both piece is stamped "STERLING 925 FINE" along with the signature "UB" Unger Brothers hallmark. A beautiful work of art, this jigger and dish set has exceptional craftsmanship and would make a special addition to any collection, particularly for a golf enthusiast!

Measurements: The silver jigger shot glass measures a little less than 2" tall and has a diameter of 1 1/2" at the bottom and 1 7/8" at the top. The shallow dish has an outer diameter of 6" and a depth of 3/8".

Condition: The overall condition of the sterling set is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the sterling silver on either piece.
