Georgian 18kt Diamond Enamel Urn Mourning Hair Locket Ring

SKU: 40638

$7,995
An exceptional and unusual memorial urn ring from the Georgian (ca1779) era! Crafted in 18kt rose gold, this piece is richly detailed and serves as a fine example of the mourning jewelry tradition. The circular centerpiece rests atop a wide, smoothly polished band, wrapping slightly around the finger, following the curvature of the shank. The centerpiece is adorned with an incredible raised urn motif, which is decorated with rich, black enameling and vibrant gold accents that add a lovely elegant touch. Sparkling old Mine and Rose Cut diamonds adorn the center, bottom and top of the urn, each one catching the light beautifully with every turn. Gracing the background of the urn is bright white enameling while a dramatic black and gold border frames the stunning design. A hidden glass-covered compartment can be found inside of the shank, behind the urn, and exposes a small lock of hair, the keepsake of a lost loved one. The disguised compartment feature of the ring is not immediately evident due to its seamless design, making it a subtle and secretive feature! Completing the piece is a smoothly polished wide band, which graduates slightly towards the back. Stamped inside of the shank is a hand engraved inscription inside the shank reads: "Eliz Rotton ob 9 April 1797 ce 71." An exceptional antique mourning ring, it is rich in history and would be perfect for the serious Georgian jewelry collector!

Measurements: The ring has a finger size 8, but could possibly be resized slightly. Please inquire prior to purchase as significant sizing is not recommended, to preserve the condition of the piece and integrity of the design. The centerpiece measures approximately 3/4" in diameter. The gold band graduates in width and measures 10mm wide at the shoulders and 4mm at the back.

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting and the enameling remains in near pristine condition, with no visible signs of damage. All of the accent diamonds are intact and the woven hair and glass locket remain intact and well-preserved.
