Victorian Large 18kt Garnet Etruscan Foxtail Locket/Pendant
An absolutely incredible garnet locket pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in vibrant 18kt yellow gold, this wonderful piece, which is particularly large in size, is detailed with several fabulous garnets surrounded by fine Etruscan beadwork. Set in the center of the piece is a large oval-shaped cabochon garnet, surrounding by eight similarly sized garnets, all bezel-set and displaying wonderful deep red hues. Vibrant gold beadwork and floral motifs surround the center stone and border of this incredible pendant and dangling from the bottom is foxtail fringe comprised of 23 chain tassels and spears, which graduate into a v-formation. The pendant hangs from a complimentary fluted bail, featuring a large gold ball at the top, a beadwork edge and additional raised details and ends in a rounded horizontal cross-bar displaying a complementary design. The back of the piece reveals a glass-covered frame, perfect for storing a favorite photograph or keepsake and the pendant would look incredible hanging from a complementary chain. This exquisite Victorian piece would make an impressive addition to any collection!
Measurements: The pendant hangs approximately 5" long including the bail, is 1 3/4" at the widest point, and is approximately 5/8" in depth. Each garnet measures approximately 3/8" wide and a little more than 1/2" tall.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold, chain tassels, or to the garnet stones which are secure and intact. The locket back is secure and in excellent working condition.
