A fabulous blister pearl bug locket pin from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This wonderful piece is crafted in sterling silver and portrays the shape of a large male stag beetle, also referred to as a pincher beetle. Set in the back of the insect are several natural seed pearls and turquoise stones and the wing cases are represented by a single blister pearl. The large pearl has greyish silver color and fantastic luster and a natural line running down the center, mimicking the appearance of two wings. The body of the bug opens from the bottom, revealing a hidden locket compartment which could hold a small trinket or photograph and the large beetle features six bent legs that peek out from underneath, two antennae at the sides and two large mandibles (pinchers) at the top. The pin has a wonderful 3-dimensional look with realistic detail throughout and on the back is a secure pin clasp. It's a fabulous and fun piece for any collector!

Measurements: The beetle locket pin measures 1 3/4" at the widest point, 5/8" at the tallest point and is 1/4" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the pin is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver setting, pearls or turquoise stones and the pin clasp and locket back are both secure and in good working condition.
