Victorian Petite 9kt Horseshoe Hoof Locket
A lovely horseshoe locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in 9kt yellow gold, this petite sized locket depicts an ornate 3-dimensional horse hoof. A textured etched horseshoe design decorates the front and back surface, complete with 7 nails along the edges (always 7 for good luck!) and an ornate swirled design within the background. Although the piece is hand engraved, exhibiting slight differences, the reverse side of the locket carries the identical design, complimenting the front beautifully. When opened, the locket reveals a space inside to store a special photograph or small trinket. The piece hangs from a simple gold bail at the top and would look wonderful worn on a favorite gold chain. Perfect for the equestrian enthusiast, this Victorian era piece would make a lovely addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 1" long, is a little more than 5/8" wide and a little more than 1/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The hinged piece opens easily and stays securely closed, and the bail for hanging is secure and in good condition.
