Victorian 14kt Diamond & Ruby Enameled Tiger Locket
An absolutely fabulous tigers head locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This stunning piece is crafted in 14kt yellow gold and features the raised image of a fierce tigers head in the center. The lion is enameled and wonderfully detailed with ruby cabochon eyes, textured, striped fur, and an open mouth in mid-roar, complete with pointed fangs. A single sparkling diamond in a 4-prong setting is clenched in between his front teeth and on the back are engraved initials in a fancy script. The locket opens to reveal two spaces behind plastic to store special photographs and at the top is a simple gold bail, making it easy to hang. This eye-catching locket has magnificent detail and would look fabulous worn on a gold chain. It would make a wonderful addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs 1 1/2" long, has a diameter of 1 1/8" and measures approximately 3/8" at its thickest point.
Condition: The locket is in excellent antique condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the front gold setting and all of the stones are intact. There is minimal surface wear to the enameling, however, nothing significant or noticeable when worn. The locket opens easily and closes securely and the bail is secure and in good working condition. There is some damage, including several dents, on the back of the locket where the initials are. Additionally, the color of gold on the back varies from the blooming gold finish on the front of the locket. Neither the damage or the color variation are noticeable when the locket is on.
