TIFFANY & CO. NO Heat Carved Sapphire "B" Signet Ring 2.75ct
The opposite of a cameo, an intaglio is created by carving below the surface to produce an image in relief with the purpose of pressing into sealing wax.
From legendary maker Tiffany & Company, this ring from the Edwardian era (ca1910) is a wonderful example of a unique intaglio ring! Crafted in platinum, the very unusual piece features a fabulous carved sapphire stone bezel set at the center of a fine tapered mounting. The natural, unheated sapphire stone has an approximate weight of 2.75ct and has a wonderful deep transparent blue color that contrasts perfectly with the smooth platinum setting. The stone is oval in shape but set within an octagonal bezel setting and the edges of the stone as well as the back are faceted, creating an eye catching appearance when moved in the light. Carved into the smooth center of the sapphire is the letter "B" which is depicted in a fancy script. Accompanying the ring is a Gemological Sapphire Origin Report issued by GIA (Gemological Institute of America), which confirms the stones' stated characteristics. Although slightly worn away, the shank is stamped "TIFFANY & CO." A magnificent example of signet ring from this era, it has an impressive look when worn and could be suitable for a man or woman!
Measurements: The ring has a large finger size of 8.75, but could be resized up or down if desired. The intaglio center measures approximately 5/16" wide and 3/8" tall.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the platinum mounting, and the sapphire intaglio remains intact and in excellent condition.
