LONGINES Late Art Deco French 18kt/Platinum + Diamond Watch 0.70ctw
This stunning and unusual diamond watch from the late Art Deco (ca1930) era is an exceptional piece manufactured by the world renowned watch company, Longines! Crafted in vibrant 18kt yellow gold with platinum accents, this gorgeous ladies watch features a rectangular shaped face accented by a sparkling diamond encrusted design. A combination of Full and Transitional Cut diamonds create a scalloped edge at the top and bottom of the watch face. The bezel set diamonds weigh approximately 0.70ctw combined and rest in platinum, which allows their brightness to come alive next to the rich yellow gold. The crystal covered watch face displays a beige colored background with blue hands, black numbers, along with the "LONGINES" signature at the center. Decorating each side of the face is a flowing etched design that is enhanced by a ribbed surface that creates a bold scalloped edge. Framing the watch face on either end is a fantastic flared design with a smoothly polished surface that provides a wonderful eye-catching appeal.
A classic gate link style band wraps around the back, fastening with a push clasp and safety latch seamlessly hidden within the final links. There are various French hallmarks on the push clasp, and on the inside and back of the watch face, including the eagle and dog head (indicating it's gold and platinum purity), and a rhino head indicating it was assayed in Paris. The vibrancy of the yellow gold next to the sparkling diamonds creates a stunning elegance with a timeless appeal. This self-winding mechanism made by a famous watchmaker looks spectacular when worn and would make a truly outstanding addition to any collection!
Measurements: The band measures approximately 6 1/2" long, 1/2" wide, and 1/16" thick and would fit a small to average sized wrist. The watch face measures about 1 1/2" long and 7/8" wide, and is about 3/8" thick. The overall pennyweight of the piece is 32.7dtw (50.9 grams).
Condition: The overall condition of the watch is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold and platinum setting or to the crystal watch face. The diamonds are all intact and securely set. The push clasp is secure and in good working condition. Watches from this period should be cleaned and serviced periodically, however, at current time, the watch movement is in fine working order and keeping good time.
