A lovely enameled locket from the Art Deco (ca1920) era! Crafted in sterling silver, the surface of this wonderful piece adorns a feminine hand painted floral motif with a rich, matte enameled overlay. A large yellow rose is the focal point of the design, gracing the center of the round locket face. The floral image has a very realistic appearance and carries intricate details throughout with soft, opening petals that have pink accents and vibrant green leaves peeking from behind. The veins can be seen in the individual leaves and very fine thorns crawl along the branches. The rose and leaf design rests atop a very rich, matte black background which really gives the design a bold yet feminine look. The locket opens to reveal two round spaces inside to store special photographs behind removable frames. At the top of the locket is a simple sterling bail, perfect for hanging the piece from a silver or enameled chain. Stamped along the bail are the maker's initials (possibly "KM")" and "935S." The back of the sterling locket is left simple and smooth, while the inside retains the original gilt finish. A lovely keepsake piece, it would make a wonderful addition to any antique collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs 1 5/8" long (including the bail), has a 1 1/4" diameter, and is a little less than 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting and the enameled surface is excellent condition. The locket opens easily and stays securely closed and the bail and both removable photo frames inside are intact.
